Delete your account
What's New? — the content-tracking app
Last updated: 28 September 2026
You can permanently delete your What's New? account and its associated data at any time. There are two ways to do it, described below. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Option 1 — Delete in the app (self-service)
- Open What's New? and go to Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account and confirm in the dialog.
This asks our server to delete the account. Once the server records the request, your account data is removed and your Google Sign-In record for the app is deleted, then you are signed out and the app's local data on that device is cleared. Deletion normally completes right away; if any step cannot finish at that moment, it completes automatically in the background — once recorded, the deletion is irreversible and the account can no longer be used. You do not need to email any support inbox — the app performs the deletion for you.
Option 2 — Request deletion by email
If you have already uninstalled the app, or cannot sign in, email us from the Google account you used to sign in (so we can verify the request):
Boris Vidojković
vidojkovicboris@gmail.com
Put "Account deletion request" in the subject. We handle these requests manually and will delete your account and its associated data within 30 days of verifying the request, and confirm by reply. We only use the email address to verify and process the request.
Cancel your subscription first
Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription and does not stop recurring billing. Google Play manages subscriptions separately, so if you have a What's New? subscription you must cancel it yourself — before or after deleting your account — in Google Play:
Manage your Google Play subscriptions (Play Store → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions).
Deleting your account removes our own record of the subscription, but only Google Play can stop the recurring charge.
What gets deleted
Both options remove all of the account data we hold, including:
- the sources you follow and their tracked content and read state;
- your saved items and interest selections;
- your subscription and entitlement records held on our server;
- any Explore community-contribution data associated with your account;
- your account row and your Google Sign-In (Firebase Authentication) record.
What we may keep
Transaction and tax records for any purchases are kept by Google Play Billing, which processes the payment; we keep no copy of our own once your account is deleted. We do keep one short-lived technical record: while your deletion completes, and for up to 48 hours after it completes, we keep a minimal deletion record (your account's user ID, when the deletion was requested and completed, and retry bookkeeping). Its only purposes are to make sure the deletion runs to completion and to stop a still-signed-in session on another device from re-creating the deleted account; it contains no other data and is deleted automatically. Non-identifying aggregate usage statistics (counted by event and day, with no account identifier) are not tied to you and are unaffected. A few things are not removed early but expire on their own schedule: short-lived problem-report and usage-limit entries keyed to your user ID (within 7 days), operational logs, which can include your user ID (within 30 days), and encrypted disaster-recovery backups taken before the deletion (within 30 days; a restore cannot bring a deleted account back). See our Privacy Policy for full retention details.
